Therapeutic approach
Narrative Therapy / Narrative Practice
Narrative Therapy and Narrative Practice explore how stories about problems, identity, relationships and culture shape experience while making room for preferred stories and possibilities.
How it works
The person is not treated as the problem. The work separates people from problems, examines the effects of dominant stories and develops richer accounts of strengths, values and agency.
What it may involve
- externalizing the problem
- mapping the problem's effects
- identifying exceptions and unique outcomes
- strengthening preferred identities and values
It may be considered for
- identity and self-worth concerns
- grief and life transitions
- relationship and family difficulties
- experiences shaped by culture, migration or illness
How it may be used at Kaeva
Narrative questions may be integrated with solution-focused, family, psychosocial or trauma-informed work when meaning, identity and context are central.
Finding the right fit matters
No single approach is right for every person or concern. Your counsellor will consider safety, readiness, preferences, goals and whether the approach fits their training and scope.
