Therapeutic approach
Somatic Experiencing®(SE)
Somatic Experiencing®(SE) is a body-oriented approach that pays attention to nervous-system responses, physical sensations and gradual regulation.
How it works
The work proceeds gradually and tracks manageable changes in sensation, movement, impulses and orientation. The pace is adjusted to avoid overwhelming the nervous system.
What it may involve
- tracking physical sensations
- orienting and grounding
- building internal and external resources
- working in small, manageable steps
It may be considered for
- trauma-related activation or shutdown
- feeling disconnected from the body
- persistent tension and hypervigilance
- difficulty returning to a settled state
How it may be used at Kaeva
SE may be integrated with talk therapy, EMDR, mindfulness or compassion-focused work. You remain in control of pacing and whether body-focused exercises are used.
Finding the right fit matters
No single approach is right for every person or concern. Your counsellor will consider safety, readiness, preferences, goals and whether the approach fits their training and scope.
